Terms and Conditions for Tour Buses

In order to protect the environment and enable mobility for both residents and visitors, there are regulations for tour buses visiting our city.

Tour bus services are important for bringing tourists to Stockholm and showing visitors the sights the city has to offer.

To be permitted to drive a heavy bus in Stockholm’s clean air zone, the vehicle must meet the City of Stockholm’s environmental requirements.

The bus must also meet the length limit and load capacity class of the roads that it is being driven on.

  • A 2-axle bus may be up to 12.99 metres long.
  • A bus with a steerable rear axle in a bogie may be up to 13.99 metres long.
  • In the inner traffic zone of Gamla stan (Old Town), there is a length limit of 8 metres and a height limit of 3.50 metres.

Buses that do not meet these length limits may be driven on the roads listed in Stockholm’s local traffic regulations, sections 16 and 17, route catalogues A and B. Vehicles with a BK1 classification may only be driven on the roads listed in section 18, load capacity class 1. On most streets, load capacity class 2 (BK2) applies.

Buses in charter service (tour buses) are permitted to drive in some public transport lanes.
